New Canon 5D slays photo world [Gearlust]
If you haven’t heard by now Canon is set to release the EOS 5D Mark II. It’s pretty much the best thing in the world ever.
Not exaggerating here. This is a game changer.
Shoots HD video at 1080px at 30 frames a second and is still, you know, a 21 megapixel newly revamped 5D with crazy new ISO sensitivity.
Everyone is freaking out about it;
- Richard Koci-Hernandez at Multimedia Shooter is giddy. Though he hasn’t done any testing yet.
- Vincent Laforet tested it out and made a killer short film.
- Sportshooter is buzzing with threads on the 5D and Laforet’s film, here, here, here, and here.
- The News Photographer’s Association of Canada (NPAC) is talking about it here and here.
- The ever reliable Rob Galbraith is pointing to a review of the camera from two Vancouver-based wedding photogs.
- The specs are up on DPreview and they are ridiculous.
I am really excited about this product. The mobility of a DSLR with the ability to shoot wide open is something not usually available for less than huge cash. With this and my 40D I can completely sidestep the crappy crap crap of the Mark III and still have money to buy groceries.
We’ll have to wait and see about the audio, apparently there is a plugin for an external mic but details are sketchy at this point. We’ll have to wait until this thing get field tested, but still, I’m super jacked about it.
